Decorating: Not Just for Gay Guys
Don’t think that you can just phone up your gay cousin to help you. For starters, he’s not going to decorate your place for you. For second, women can tell gay decorating. You do not want her first impression to be ″is he gay?″ You want her first impression to be ″he’s got good taste″. This means you’re going to have to do it yourself.
Plan Around Something
You don’t have to get bright colors and expensive furniture. If you find something that you like, that can be what you focus the rest of your decorating around. For example, if you managed to snag a cool bar-style kitchen table with booth-style chairs, you can find other furniture to match those things. Pick up an entertainment center that is of the same color wood and a couch that has the same fabric as the seats on the benches. That sort of thing is very easy to do and takes a lot of guesswork out of what you need to buy. Plus, if you’re matching something you already really like, the odds of you not liking what you’re decorating with goes down.
Pops of Color
When most men hear this our brows contort and we just blankly stare. We have no idea what a pop of color is or why anyone should care about it. The fact of the matter is, that color pops do tend to make things look better. For example, if you like orange, finding something that’s orange to stick in with your dark wood furniture will add something to the rest of the room.
We, personally, prefer to do this in paint. Painting one of your walls with a good, bold, color will make your place look bigger and make the room look more interesting. These are called ″accent walls″ you can get advice about that in the paint department of your local hardware or paint store.
Another good place for this ″pops of color″ deal is in the kitchen. You have to buy pots and pans in sets. Just get the set in a color you like instead of the usual black, silver, or copper. This way you’ll have something that looks more sophisticated and adult. Plus, if she really likes it, it may entice her to cook for you.
Little Details
If you’ve got the furniture, some pops of color, now you just have to do some for the finishing touches. That usually means wall decorations, rugs, and little things that make no sense. First things first, don’t get decorative pillows. They’re ridiculous. What you can do, is buy a rug that has some of your color choice in it.
The other thing that you can do is get your posters framed. It doesn’t take much work to turn your old bedroom poster into a work of art. Just get a good matting behind it, slap a nice frame on it and there you go. Instant artwork!
